QE2 - Ship Designation
I've just been reading a web article which talks about the ships designation or title. According to the source, QE2 never received the title RMS (Royal Mail Ship /Steamer) and up until the conversion to diesel carried the simple title of S.S. (Steam Ship) after that recieving the M.V. (Motor Vessel) title. (The RMS title is only allocated by UK Royal Mail when a ship has a contract to carry mail.)
I am surprised as I had always assumed that she did bear the RMS prefix. I could understand the title being removed after her change in operational role from line voyages to cruising. Can anyone add anything further or substantiate the claim?
