I have no photos but recorded this in a diary entry. It was the first time I was going t0 get photos but she thwarted me. Here are the entries:

Thursday 9 July
QE2 came in this afternoon and went into dry dock for repairs.

Friday 10 July
QE2 was supposed to leave at 8.30pm but didn't leave until 2.30am! Went to the Promenade at 8.15 and waited for 1 1/2 hours!

A bit off topic but would you have any newspaper cuts from that time when she arrived in Southampton before and after the refit?

This was in fact scheduled by Cunard. The reason for the dry-docking was to have the remaining vane wheels removed and replaced with bronze cone caps. This was also the time when the small windows were cut in her hull allowing a view of the propellars.

Cunard revised two voyages to accommodate the work. An eastbound transatlantic voyage was rescheduled to arrive four hours earlier and the follow-on westbound voyage revised to depart 9 hours later (although from Liner Lovers account even this revised timing was put back). Due to the latter transatlantic timed to start later the schedule stop in Cherbourg was abandoned.
