QE2 takes lead in oil platform rescue
20th August 1990
At sea towards Bergen,Norway the QE2 was called for a rescue operation.Thats was one hell of a day,its was my first big rough stormy weather at sea, all morning long i was seasick(yes crew also get seasick).I was working then in the old Club Lido. All the chairs in the Club Lido were stored, stacked and tied down on the staboard side. The magrodome area was also all cleared. The pool was emptied and covered with the net there was water coming in through the magrodome roof. The big buffet stand of the portside just before the magrodome entrance turned over. There were passengers walking around but not many.I to would presume that the doors to open decks especially on boat were closed.I was to busy with other things to pay attention for that

Re: QE2 takes lead in oil platform rescue
I remember that day very well. There had been a heavy swell since joining the North sea en route to Norway. For most people without sea legs it was hell! but when QE2 altered course to intercept West gamma the legs of even the most experienced sea dogs were tested to the full.......I lasted until lunch time before i had to take the big jaggy needle in my butt cheek. A lot of crockery and glassware was smashed during this storm but as usual it was all replaced before any passengers could notice. I slept all night and the next morning and was APD'd for breakfast and ended up with tea duty..........No fair man !!
