Falklands Conflict - 1982

Post  CAP on Fri Aug 13, 2010 8:01 am

News of the ship being requisitioned arrived on 3 May 1982 whilst she was steaming along the South Coast of England bound for Southampton. All future voyages were cancelled until further notice. Following her arrival in Southampton on 4 May she was officially requisitioned and conversion work began.

On 12 May 1982 she departed Southampton, anchoring of Nab point to effect boiler repairs. Her subsequent destinations were Freetown and Ascension before arriving in South Georgia on 27 May. On 4 June she arrived back at Ascension to disembark the more serious casualties that she had taken on board. QE2 finally arrived back in Southampton on 11 June 1982.
